In addition to the standard 35mm negatives and slides there are a some b&w negatives, medium formats, and odd ball sized prints that I need to scan as well. I have also purchased an epson v500 to do some of them at home. I have investigated the scanning services and will likely send a good many of them out to be done. I have a good number of negatives, slides, prints from my father and grandfathers collection that I want to convert to digital format. I also discovered that if you remove the top piece of the v600 120 holder, and cut off the film clips at the end, the medium format anti-newton glass insert from betterscanning will fit in perfectly, which can help keep the film flat for noticeably sharper scans.Hello, new guy here with a couple questions if you don't mind. You can actually buy the v600 120 holder for around $11, it works just fine with the v500. The actual transparency adapter in the v500 is large enough to scan more that the supplied holder allows for (after all, it can scan a 6 frame strip of 35mm film). The only difference between the two scanners in this regard is that the v600 comes with a different 120 film holder, that has a larger opening that the 120 holder that comes with the v500. The V600 is advertised as being able to scan more 120 negatives, but this really isn't entirely true. I don't know if there is any significant improvements in the actual hardware or software, but I would point out something about the v600 being able to scan more 120 negatives. Personally, I don't see any real advantages of the v600 over the v500.
